Having trouble with Nifty? Maybe one of the questions below will help you...
If your question is not answered here, ask it.
It's a public wish list. A place where you can manage a list of the things you want. A tool for sharing that list with other people.
It's free.
Please report it. If you report a bug, it will be fixed, and that makes Nifty better.
That toolbar stopped working recently. We're building a new one. Uninstall the one you have. Sorry.
Go retrieve your password. You must enter the email address you used when you signed up. We'll send your password to you at that email address.
First, you've got to be logged in. Click "My Nifty". You should have at least one category there - open it. At the top of any category page, there are buttons, and one of them goes to the "Add an item" form.
First, you've got to be logged in. Click "My Nifty". You should see at least one category there - and some buttons, one of them says "Add a category".
Go to your privacy settings. Each category can be configured to be seen by "only your friends" or "everyone". If the privacy for a category is set to "everyone", that means everyone, including unauthenticated visitors and search engines.
Go to your Twitter Settings. There's a shortcut icon for it in the top bar. Enter your twitter name and password. If you got them right, you'll see your "following" status feed on the right; that lets you know it's working.
Assuming you entered your credentials right, the problem may be with Twitter's API. Go to Twitter.com, sign in, and see if everything is working OK there. If it is, come back to Nifty and try again. If it still doesn't work, report it.
Assuming you've followed the instructions, it may still not be your fault. Facebook often makes unannounced changes to their authentication API, and sometimes it breaks Nifty. It's happened several times already. They do not warn us, and they never apologize. If you notice any problems with facebook authentication at Nifty, please report it.
They're two different ways to interact with the same list. iWant came first, and Nifty was built afterwards to give people a way to interact with their lists while not logged into facebook. Nifty has its own authentication (login) and some extra features that wouldn't work on facebook. Conversely, iWant uses facebook's login to know who you are, and it has some extra features like notifications, exposing lists on your profile, and effortless recognition of who your friends are.
Go to your Facebook Settings and "detach" from facebook. That disables Nifty's ability to publish stories to your facebook feed, import your facebook photo, and other facebook-enabled features throughout Nifty.
Check your internet connection by going to some other sites to see if they are also slow. It could be that Nifty is really busy. Also, some pages that contain a lot of images can load slowly, especially if your browser's caching settings are very conservative. If in doubt, reboot.
The owner of that category has set its privacy to "me only". It's a private list.
Please report it. When you do, tell me your name so I can look in the database to see what went wrong.
Nifty uses the UTF-8 character set, which includes characters for hundreds of international languages. Some very old browsers do not support UTF-8. My advice is: upgrade.
Not really. Because it uses UTF-8 character set, you can create Nifty list items in any language you want. However right now the interface for Nifty is only built in the English language. If you are bilingual and would like to help translate Nifty into another language, please contact me. Internationalization may begin some time in 2010.
No. The Nifty database is backed up every day in case the entire system is compromised, but we do not entertain requests for individual data recovery.
The items are not destroyed along with their container. Instead, all the items in that category are moved into your default category. There is always one category deemed your default - and if you delete that one, Nifty will choose another category to be your default. If you only have one category, you are not allowed to delete it.
No. There is no real upper limit for the number of items. We've tested Nifty with lists of up to 1000 items and it still works fine. But you will notice that when you make really long lists, they can take an awfully long time to load.
So I've heard. Nifty was designed for viewing in a web browser on a computer screen; it's never been redesigned to fit on a little mobile device. That may happen some day.
Nifty is tested regularly in IE7 and Firefox 3, both with JavaScript enabled and disabled. It will probably work in most other browsers, but it's not guaranteed. If you see a problem using something else (Chrome, Safari, Opera, etc), report it.
